Reasons to visit Ninh Binh – Ninh Binh Tours
Also known as “Halong Bay on land”; Ninh Binh is the rural area in the North of Vietnam. However, it remains far less popular than Halong Bay. Ninh Binh only gains some popularity in recent years when the Trang An Landscape Complex has been chosen as UNESCO World Heritage Site. Since then, Ninh Binh has experienced the boom in tourism with millions of tourists coming here each year.
Far from the noisy and bustling of the modern capital Hanoi, Ninh Binh is quite laid-back, peaceful and extremely traveler friendly. If you go from Hanoi, this is a relatively easy 2 hour journey to get to Ninh Binh by car. The reason why Ninh Binh is called Halong Bay on land is that it resembles the landscape structure and and scenery of Halong Bay. Also, there are plenty of activities to enjoy such as trekking, cycling around the villages and boat riding.
Here are the reasons we think you should add Ninh Binh to your travel bucket list and book your Ninh Binh Tours right after reading this post:
From Hanoi, Ninh Binh is only 95 kilometers away and it takes about 2 hours of driving. This is an easy journey and could be your best choice for 1 day trip ouside Hanoi. You can even get here quite conveniently from Ha Long Bay. From Ninh Binh, you can get to other cities easily by catching overnight buses. Just ask your hotel reception for more information.
As said above, Ninh Binh is known as Halong Bay for its beautiful landscape and scenery but the biggest difference is that it looks like Ha Long Bay but on land instead of water. There are hundreds of limestone monoliths topped by dense greenery that emerge from the ground, scattered around the city with rivers flowing through them and caves formed in them.
Gives you a chance to use the Reunification Express
The Reunification Express is different from the Orient Express. This is the most comfortable express standard in Vietnam. On sleeper trains, each carriage contains a number of cabins, which have four berths. A wash basin and communal western and squat toilets are located at the end of each carriage. Pillows and blankets are provided, meals are sometimes served on the train.
If you had a chance, experience going on a train in Vietnam would be interesting to try. While it takes about 2 hours from Hanoi to Ninh Binh by car, going by train takes about 3 hours. However, on the train, you can see the scenery that you can’t on the car. There’re some majestic scenery that worth to see and such a waste to miss. If you like photography, you can take gorgeous pictures of landscapes on the train.
Plenty of affordable accommodation
It’s no hard finding an accommodation in Ninh Binh. In fact, there’re plenty of choices for you range from hotels to hostels and homestays with dorm beds starting at around $8.00 a night. If you book our Ninh Binh Tours, accommodation is included in the package so you don’t need to find them yourself and it saves you a lot of time.
A day trip is possible with Ninh Binh Tours
Ninh Binh is a famous destination for a day trip from Hanoi. Apart from 4 hours moving on the road, you can spend all the left time to explore Ninh Binh. Although it’s best to spend more than a day here in Ninh Binh to explore all the attractions, 1 day is still enough to go to the highlight destinations.
For 1 day trip, if you get to Ninh Binh early in the morning, you can easily cover a few attractions such as Tam Coc, Trang An and the pagodas scattered around them. You can even visit the Phat Diem Cathedral and even go cycling around the villages and rice fields and immerse in the peaceful atmosphere of this place.
Trang An Eco-tourism Complex
The Trang An Complex is a fascinating mixture of moutains and caves to which you can only get to by water. To explore all this place, you have to go on a boat trip that follows the route of the river with its local landscape consisting of the limestone mountain peaks, the many cave systems to explore, and land excursions to see ancient pagodas and temples.
There are eight caves to explore on boat. On the way you will see many beautiful religious structures, surrounded by green nature, giving the area a rather serene outlook. Trang An Complex is also the most famous attraction of our Ninh Binh Tours and Ninh Binh Day Tour.
Tam Coc is in Ninh Hai district which is located 7 kilometers to the south – west of Ninh Binh commune. Tam Coc means “three caves” in Vietnamese which referred to as Ca Cave, Hai Cave, and Ba cave. The best way to Tam Coc is going on a boat ride along Ngo Dong river.
It is similar to what is offered in Trang An – mountains, rivers, caves, rice fields, and pagodas. While sitting on the boat, you can take pictures, breathe in some fresh air, immerse in the tranquil atmosphere and stunning scenery around you.
Van Long Nature Reserve
Van Long Nature Reserve is located to the north of Gia Vien District, Ninh Binh province. It’s about 82 kilometers from Hanoi. Van Long Nature Reserve is the trasition region between the plain and mounatinous area that’s why it has the biodiversity with tropical forest ecosystem in karst and the vast system of marshes. The special of Van Long Nature Reserve is the rock islands standing in immense waters, which make it an unique complex and charming landscapes. Van Long Nature Reserve is a potential tourist attractions of Ninh Binh in many years to come.
As said before, Van Long Nature Reserve is famous for its biodiversity and the rare species found in here. Among the bird species that have been spotted here are the rare black-faced spoonbill, cotton pygmy goose and white-browed crake. Van Long is also home to one of the last wild refuges of the endangered Delacour’s langur. However, they’re not easy to spot.
The favourite activity here is go on a relaxed row-boat rides around the reserve and slowly observe the animal species and majestic scenery. Especially, if you had a chance to see the sunset here, there’s absolutely no word to describe the beauty here. That’s why they chose this destination as the film set for the popular Holywood movie Kong: Skull Island. Along with the Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, Tam Coc – Bich Dong, Cuc Phuong National Park…, Van Long Nature Reserve has now become a must-see spot for tourists to Ninh Binh travel.
Hang Mua Peak
Mua cave or Hang Mua is located at the foot of Mua Mountain, in Khe Ha Ha village, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province.
There are actually two peaks on top of Mua Cave. To reach the higher one, you will have to climb up hundred of steps which takes about 20 to 30 minutes to climb up to the top. Of course for some, it can be challenging but don’t give up, the end will worth all the hard work. Once you reach the top, the panoramic view over the Tam Coc Valley and all the limestone mountains and rice fields is absolutely breathtaking. Many gorgeous photos has been taken from here. From the top of the Hang Mua Peak is the stunning view of Tam Coc area with mountain range, rice fields and river flowing.
Rowing through caves – Ninh Binh Tours
There’re a total of 8 natural caves inside limestone mountains in Trang An. You can ask your boat peddler to take you through these caves. Some caves have low ceilings and you need to duck your head in order not to collide with the pointy rocks. Don’t worry, your peddlers will warn you. Going through these places, the peddlers have to peddle with their feet to avoid injuries.
Ninh Binh Tours Review From TripAdvisor
- David Phinns from USA:
On the 24.03.2018 me and my son decided to visit Ninh Binh. We decided to take this trip after reading so much about it and after so many people and guide tour’s told us about the beauty of this place. Every one told us that it’s like Ha Long bay but less crowded. We book the Ninh Binh Tours for 1 day. The coach came next day and after going round the city and collecting more people we set off .The coach ride it’s a bit long but your reward it’s enormous when you arrive there.
You can take a boat with oars and go down the river. The boats are run by local people and they use their feet for the oars and not their hands. The scenery it’s magical. The beauty of the place and the way the rocks are formed and the vegetation will have you believe that you live in another era.
You can see various wildlife, and you go under a big cave. At the bottom of your ride there is local people selling food and drinks. Then you come back to the point you started. The way you pay for the boat ride is by you tipping the owner of the boat. You can then go for a bicycle ride and enjoy the views and wildlife. We done both with my son and it was an experienceI will remember for the rest of my life. The place is beautiful, tranquil, peaceful and it will be a shame not to visit if your close by.
- MJ Travels: Picturesque landscape enriched by stories of yesterday!
Halong Bay in land is how this region can be described, picturesque landscape with tranquil river systems flowing through the limestone mountains enriched by the ancient stories of yesterday.
A tour is highly recommended to get the full experiance as there is limited signage and none that fully explain the historical significance of the region unless of course you have a trusty tour book which will give you a brief description of its significance.
We learnt a lot from our tour guide and enjoyed a cycle tour around the rice fields, and then a traditional boat ride down the river thru some fascinating natural limestone tunnels.
