History of Dau Go Cave

Mentioning the name of Dau Go Cave, there have been 3 different explanations. The first theory says that in the thirteenth century when Tran King and Vietnamese people had to fight against Mongol invaders, Dau Go Cave was used as a place to hide wood piles for Vietnamese soldiers to build up a battlefield and knockdown ships of those invaders.

When the tide was down, the enemies were stuck in those wooden stakes then driven into the river bed. Therefore, the cave was called as Giau Go Cave (Hidden Wood Cave) at first to mark this important milestone of history. After that, the name change into Dau Go Cave (Wooden Stakes).

While living in the cave, people fixed their boats to make preparation to get back to land and left plenty of wood pieces. Therefore, the cave is called Dau Go cave.

According to the third theory, the name of Dau Go cave was originated from the unique shape of the island which consists of Dau Go Cave. The island has its form of a giant timber tree so that people call it Dau Go Cave.

Dau Go Cave Tripadvisor Reviews

“The visit to the cave was the highlight of the trip to Halong Bay. It is a sight never to be missed. You can have time to visit this cave only if you take the highway tour or the travel to Halong bay itself will take more time and you would not have much time for the cruise any cave visit.”

“The cave at the Halong Bay is simply amazing. This limestone cave takes approximately 20 minutes to go through and needs a good amount of steps to climb. Yet if you are in the area, worth visiting..”

“I was afraid being 66 years old and not in the best of shape that this would be too much. But the stair climb was short and the view after you pass through the impressive cave complex was gorgeous.”

“Wear closed in shoes -no thongs, slides or sandals is what I’d recommend.

Breathtaking and worth the hike. Fairly crowded, like most of Vietnam but so worth it. The beach is a tease but you’re not allowed to swim. Great views from the top overlooking the bay!.”
